To buy Costume or Heirloom jewelry that is the question…How many of us has bought tons of junk jewelry? All of us have and just think about what happens to all of it is a mystery. It disappears, breaks, and is given to friends or the Goodwill. Just take a moment to wonder how much you have spent over time. Never mind the rashes and green skin and hives that these suspect metals have done to our skin. So much is made in China these days and so much contains lead and other minerals that can be very dangerous when worn.
I am huge believer in the real thing – real and genuine gemstones and gold and silver. Not only are they more beautiful, they have true value in $$$ and sentiment. Pieces made of these materials will last forever and are made well by jewelers and designers to stand the test of time. There is a price to pay for this of course, but it is always worth the extra cost. Just think of how you could transform your $$$ that you normally spend on costume pieces and instead buy a few perfect jewelry pieces that may never lose their value. In fact, depending on the designer and the rarity of the stone you can increase your value! What a novel idea. Wish I had thought of that 🙂 Well I did and now I do. I design for myself and others to have beautiful gemstones and genuine gold and silver in fabulous designs that will be passed down over generations and probably outlive my grandchildren.
In this scenario, we buy only pieces we absolutely love, are genuine stones and metal and can be handed down to loved ones as heirlooms. These will have stories about them and who wore them and make them very very special.
A piece I will remember forever is my Grandmothers wedding ring. She redesigned her 1910 wedding ring in 1950 or so and used the original diamonds. Who knew that designing was in my blood? The ring was absolutely gorgeous in it’s recreated form. Every daughter and granddaughter had loved this ring that was always on her ring finger. She was such a lovely woman and we all remember the ring as part of her. We knew the pecking order and this was passed to oldest daughter then to my Mom and then to me. I am lucky girl. I still have this fabulous piece and all the wonderful memories that go with it today.
Here are some pieces of my jewelry that can serve as heirlooms for your family. Hope you will have some jewelry that you can pass down to your children and grandchildren and make sure you give them some juicy elaborate stories about how you came by them, where you wore them and maybe how it got lost, but you found it again and are so happy!!
